Supported RAID Levels
- RAID 0 (Striped): No redundancy. If one drive dies, all data is lost. We reconstruct the stripes.
- RAID 1 (Mirrored): Usually safe, but sometimes the mirror corrupts or both drives fail simultaneously.
- RAID 5 (Parity): Can withstand one drive failure. If a second drive fails during rebuild, the array collapses. This is our most common case.
- RAID 10: A combination of speed and mirroring.
Do Not Re-Initialize
If your RAID controller says "Foreign Config" or "Array Degraded", DO NOT initialize or rebuild unless you are 100% sure the drive is healthy. A rebuild on a failing drive will permanently destroy data.
